ORPHANHOOD
Orphan, hearing this word itself we develop a feeling of
compassion for a person. But this is an instant short term thought we have, as
we have always read some remorseful stories about them. We can never ever
realize what falls on them, even I can’t!
Just writing an article about them even doesn’t prove me a savior! But
what can I do is make us all aware of some facts.
India is a very vast country. Strange to know it has thrice
the population of US living in an area one third of that of US. About 41% of the
Indian population has an age below 18. Out of these 4% children are orphans or
in other words the approximate count of orphans in India is 20 million. Isn’t it
a thing to worry? It is predicted that the percentage of destitute children
will go down by 2021 albeit the number will rise to 24 million from the current
20 million.
Life is not an Amitabh Bacchan film in which he being an
orphan boy just plays some tricks and in no time he is a rich guy leading a
good life thereafter. Orphan hood is a curse to our society and the one who
goes through it faces many dreadful threats of life. An orphan faces many
problems like maltreatment, child labor, impoverishment, health issues etc.
Apart from this the Indian society is also plagued with certain inhuman acts like
trafficking and child abuse. Such acts suck the vitality of our society.
By this initiative SPARSH, we aim at bringing the problems
of orphans and needy to the nearest eyes. We aim at getting suggestions and
enacting upon them efficiently so that not only we comment on hearing their
stories while drinking a cup of coffee but also feel a bit of their pain.
