A WOMEN TRAVELLING ALONE AT NIGHT – not less than a nightmare

women have a really hard time while travelling alone at night, it is not less than a nightmare. In spite of so many laws regarding women’s protection why do women still fear to go out at night? Why are these laws not being practiced properly? Had it been enforced properly, no parent would ever stop their daughter from going out at night.
Every woman is afraid of travelling alone at night so they try to find someone known to accompany them, if they are getting late for home. It feels much safer when somebody is accompanying because in this way you are able to distract your mind from disturbing thoughts and at the same time your parents also get a relief if someone else is with you.
When travelling alone there is a constant fear in mind that whether would I be able to get a transport? whether it is a late night party or a late shift of work, a women who doesn’t has a personal vehicle would think twice before going as at night it is very difficult to get an appropriate transport (Most of the buses and autos doesn’t run that late on the streets). Many times auto drivers try take advantage of the situation by charging double from you and left with no option, you just pay whatever amount is being asked by them.
Safety is one of the biggest issue which is stopping many women from travelling at night. Usually at night there is very less crowd, so people do take it as an opportunity to harass women. (Most of the rape, murder and kidnapping cases happens at night).
According to the Indian 2016 survey around 33% of women stopped going out in public and 17% said they quit their jobs rather than face harassment in public places. There is constant worry on every women's mind while travelling late that if they are not able to reach on time then what explanation they would give to their parents. Parents these days are very concerned about their daughter’s safety as sexual harassment cases are increasing day by day, so they expect their daughters to come home as early as possible and even if their daughters are running just half and hr late, they will call them multiple times to take the updates.

Stopping girls from going out at night isn’t a solution rather you have to start looking for alternatives like avoid taking taxis at night and prefer your own car, don’t take lifts from strangers, learn self-defence techniques (there are plenty of self-defence techniques videos on YouTube) or ask somebody known to accompany you if possible.
You can’t avoid situations but you can always tackle it smartly, if you are prepared in advance.
